BECOMING: TERMS & CONDITIONS
Lawson Vocal Studios/LVS & Company is a vocal and performance company that is celebrating it’s 5-year anniversary by holding an emerging artist contest, titled “BECOMING”. LVS is dedicated to supporting developing artists across Canada and beyond, whether through vocal and performance coaching, artist development, industry advice, or mentorship.
The “BECOMING” Contest is intended to support emerging Canadian artists through mentorship and artist development opportunities. The Contest commences on Monday, July 13 and ends on Friday, August 7 @ 11:59 PM ET. A total of 8 Standout artists across two ages categories will be selected by a music industry panel - these artists will be awarded with prizes which will contribute to their further musical education and artist development.
To be eligible to participate in the Competition, each participant must:
Be a legal resident of Canada (in the case of a band/ensemble, 50% of the
members must be residents of Canada)
Self-identify as an emerging artist
Have an active, public Instagram account
Be at least 18 years of age or older as of July 14, 2020 to enter the “18 and over” category
Be at least 10 years of age and at most 17 years of age as of July 13, 2020 to enter the “10-17” category
Only submit once per artist
*If you (or any member of your group, if applicable) are under the age of majority in the province in which you reside, you must have your parent and/or legal guardian read and agree to the terms and conditions on your behalf. Unless your parent and/or legal guardian agrees to these terms, you will not be eligible to participate.
*You are under the age of majority if you are:
Under 18 years of age and reside in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, or Saskatchewan; and
Under 19 years of age and reside in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, or Yukon
There are no fees to submit your Submission. All costs incurred in the production and delivery of the Video Submission, Headshots, or any other materials submitted shall be solely at the expense of the Applicant.
Applicant hereby grants to Lawson Vocal Studios + LVS & Company a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide licence to use the Submission and the Performance and Showcase Content in and on any and all media, now and hereafter devised, for any purpose.
Except as set forth above, Applicant has the exclusive ownership of any and all right, title, and interest in the Performance Content, as well as any copyrights relating thereto.
By entering the Contest, Applicant agrees to become a subscriber to the LVS newsletter. Should Applicant wish, they may unsubscribe at any time.
Applicant is solely responsible for ensuring they have the right to perform and submit the songs in both their video application, and if they make the top 12, in their live performance Finale Showcase. They are solely responsible for ensuring there are no restrictions and/or clearance issues with any of the materials they submit in their application or with any live performances for the Finale Showcase.
LVS and its affiliates and agents will not be liable for any failure of the website during the Contest or any technical malfunction or other problems, the failure of any Submission to be received, captured, or recorded for any reason, any injury or damage to an Applicant’s or any other person’s computer or other device related to or resulting from participating in the Contest, or any combination of the above.
The decisions of the Music Industry Panel with respect to all aspects of this Contest are final and binding on all Applicants without right of appeal, including, without limitation, any decisions regarding the eligibility/disqualification of Submissions and/or Applicants. By participating in this Contest, you are agreeing to be legally bound by the terms and conditions of this Contest.

Standout Artist presented by Slaight Music - $500 studio credit to Lawson Vocal Studios + BONUS of 5 hours studio time with Pow Productions (this can be done online or in person - any travel/accommodation costs for in-person recording are the responsibility of the winner)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
DO I HAVE TO BE A SOLO ARTIST OR CAN I SUBMIT AS A DUO OR GROUP?
You are welcome to submit as a duo or group. Please fill out one application on behalf of the group and make sure to indicate the names of each group member in the "Artist Bio" section. Please note that prizes awarded will be of the same value whether given to an individual artist or a duo/group.
WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT?
All applicants must be 10 years of age as of July 13, 2020. If you are under the age of majority in your province as of July 13, 2020 your Parent and/or Guardian must provide their name and email address and agree to the Terms & Conditions at the bottom of the Submission Form on your behalf.
I'M TURNING 18 LATER THIS YEAR - WHICH AGE CATEGORY DO I CHOOSE?
If you turned 18 on or before July 13, 2020 please submit in the "18 and over" category.
If you turn 18 on or after July 14, 2020 please submit in the "10-17" category.
IS THERE A COST TO SUBMIT MY APPLICATION TO BECOMING?
No, it is free to send in your submission. Please note that any money spent in creating the video submission will be at the expense of the applicant.
WHAT SONGS SHOULD I CHOOSE FOR MY SUBMISSION?
It's up to you! Make sure the songs represent you as an artist and that you only sing maximum one cover song. Please read through "HOW TO SUBMIT" for more details.
